CentOS 7 - Post installation

Start network interface on boot

After installing CentOS 7 using the minimal .iso we need to set to start the network interface on start changing in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file the value ONBOOT=yes, and restart.

Update packages

To update packages type: # yum update

Add EPEL Repos

# curl -O http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm
# rpm -ivh epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm

CentOS Utils

To get IP addresses

$ ip a

To list installed packages

Options:

  • # rpm -qa
  • # yum list installed
  • install yum-utils (yum update && yum install yum-utils) and run # repoquery -a --installed

Install PostgreSQL

Open firewall port

Use this command to find your active zone(s):

it will be public, dmz or something else.

and now you can set a known service, like this

or set a port and protocol:

remember to reload the firewall for changes to take effect.
